Wand massager

The strongest thing in the drawer.

Suits: Tried a little Usually costs: Most

Why this one

A broad, rumbling head with far more power behind it than any small toy — it gets there when nothing else does, which matters if sensation has dulled with age, medication or simply a long day. It also works honestly as a back massager, which is why it is the one you can leave on a shelf.

What to look for

  1. Deep rumble rather than high buzz. Rumble travels into the tissue; buzz sits on the surface and numbs it.
  2. A flexible neck, so the head follows you instead of you following the head.
  3. Cordless with real battery life. Mains wands are stronger, but you are tied to a wall.

Before you buy

This is the loudest thing on the list and the most powerful. Start on the lowest setting, through underwear or a towel — full power on bare skin is too much for most people the first time.
